Fire destroys trailer in Glenwood Springs

An early-morning fire Tuesday destroyed a trailer and caused smoke and other damage in the adjacent Carpet One building in Glenwood Springs.

Emergency dispatchers were contacted about the fire at 4:47 a.m., and firefighters arrived on the scene at 2628 S. Glen Ave. to find a tandem-axle, utility trailer engulfed in flames, the Glenwood Springs Fire Department said. The trailer was loaded with carpet scraps and flooring installation items and was sitting next to the south side of the business.

Eight firefighters knocked down 15-foot flames within five minutes, and extinguished the trailer fire and hot spots within a wall and ceiling of the building after about an hour. The building’s contents suffered major smoke damage, but only minor damage occurred to the building itself, the Fire Department said.

The fire’s cause remains under investigation.
