Four students nominated to attend military academies

U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar, D-Colo., and Congressman John Salazar, D-Colo., nominated four local high school students Thursday to attend the country’s military academies.

Sen. Salazar nominated Grand Junction resident Jordan Potterton to attend the U.S. Naval Academy next year.

“They are the future leaders of our state and our Nation, and I am not only encouraged, but inspired by their eagerness to serve America,” the senator said in a statement.

Congressman John Salazar nominated Ryan Wallway of Grand Junction, Mitch Hoogeveen of Clifton and Potterton to attend the U.S. Air Force Academy. John Salazar, who served in the U.S. Army from 1973 to 1976, nominated Benjamin Fox of Grand Junction to attend the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
