Four adults, child escape house fire
A fire early Sunday morning severely damaged a Grand Junction house and displaced five people.
The blaze, which broke out at 6:10 a.m. at 2892 Kiowa Court, was discovered by an adult who noticed the noise and red glow of the fire.
He alerted three other adults and a child and the group was able to get out of the house without injury, said Grand Junction Fire Department spokesman Mike Page.
The first fire crews on scene found smoke and flames showing on the north side of the house and heavy fire in the attic. It took 18 firefighters about 20 minutes to gain control of the fire.
Crews located an uninjured dog inside the house, Page said.
The cause of the fire, which damaged the attic and the kitchen, remains under investigation.
The home is owned by Christina L. Owens, according to Mesa County assessor records.
The American Red Cross was called in to assist the residents.
