Funeral for Taylor set for Monday

A memorial service for Gene Taylor, who founded the sporting goods store bearing his name and was active in many philanthropic projects, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Grand Junction.

Taylor died March 16 at Hospice & Palliative Care Center of Western Colorado. He was 79.

Taylor founded the sporting goods stores that bear his name after his budding baseball career was cut short by a broken thumb.

He is survived by three sons, Duke, Marshal and Tony, three daughters, Amy Dyer, Jenny Parsons and Roseanna Taylor, and a sister, Ann Muhr Boyd.

Visitation will be 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary, 2515 Patterson Road.
