GJ’s Weinberg settles for second at state tennis

Grand Junction High School senior Spencer Weinberg put up a fight, but he bowed in the No. 1 singles final of the CHSAA Class 5A state boys tennis tournament to Highlands Ranch senior Hayden Sabatka for the second year in a row.
Sabatka prevailed 7-6, 6-3. Weinberg led 5-3 in the first-set tiebreaker, but Sabatka rallied to win it 7-6.
Grand Junction’s other entry in Saturday’s medal round, the No. 4 doubles team of Matthew Ness and Charlie Ruckman, lost its third-place match 6-4, 6-3 to the duo from Regis Jesuit.
More about Weinberg’s finals match will be available Sunday in The Daily Sentinel and at GJSentinel.com.
