Grand Junction Pipe sells off concrete division

A Commerce City concrete form manufacturer purchased a division of Grand Junction Pipe last week. The deal closed Friday, company officials confirmed.

The venerable pipe supply company sold its concrete pipe and precast division, which includes its concrete plant at 2311 River Road, Grand Junction Pipe President and CEO Todd Bauer said.

Company officials declined to comment on any of the financial details of the transaction.

The sale impacts about 30 employees, all of whom were retained by the new owner, Precast Concepts, Precast Concepts Vice President and General Manager Jeff Arnold said.

“Right now we’ve rehired everybody that was on staff. They have a lot of expertise and experience and so we’re excited to have them as part of our Precast team,” Arnold said.

Precast already notified Grand Junction Pipe customers that existing contracts would be honored, he said.

“We’re proceeding with those orders so the impact to the customer should be minimal,” Arnold said.

The purchase allows Precast to offer a new line of products like box culverts, manholes, septic tanks, and barrier walls, he said.

In addition to expanding its operations, the new line improves Precast’s competitiveness on both the Western Slope and the Front Range, Arnold said.

Arnold and his agents have already met with local public works officials and private contractors to notify them of the change in ownership and the expanded line of products, Arnold said.

For Grand Junction Pipe, the deal means business as usual at its six plastic pipe distribution stores, Bauer said.

“Nothing’s changed in the Grand Junction Pipe and Supply end of the business or even construction for any of the companies that we own,” Bauer said.

“We’re continuing to do business and grow and look at other opportunities within the community and western Colorado,” he said.

The companies traded with each other for years prior to the sale, Bauer said.

The sale came about after Grand Junction Pipe’s parent company, Summit Materials, approached Precast to see if it would be interested in buying the precast concrete division, he said.
