Great American Taxi plays Mesa Theater Jan. 22

Great American Taxi, one of the best-known headliners on the jam band circuit, has a date to jam in Grand Junction.

Fronted by Leftover Salmon’s Vince Herman, Great American Taxi will perform its blend of country, rock and bluegrass at 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, at Mesa Theater and Club, 538 Main St.

The name Great American Taxi refers to Herman’s unique skiing style.

“A friend of mine once said I came downhill looking like a great American taxi — a large lumbering object that’s totally out of control and coming downhill towards you faster and faster. It seemed to fit the band’s m.o., so we adopted it,”  Herman said in a news release.

The band is celebrating five years together, and its second album “Reckless Habits” hits the streets March 2. The band’s current lineup is: Herman, singer/songwriter/mandolinist; Chad Staehly, keyboard; Jeff Hamer and Jim Lewin, guitarists; Brian Adams, bassist; and Chris Sheldon, drummer.

Doors will open at 8 p.m., and tickets are $12 for the 18 and older show.
