Every year, Susan Brennan Patton and her family have supported local nonprofit organizations, donating fruit from their orchards to food banks and gift basket programs and donating their time to causes such as Relay for Life.

During a recent stroll through Vitamin Cottage, Patton said,  she came up with another idea of how to give back to the community.

“I was in the health food store, and they have Pink Lady (apple) tea and part of the proceeds go to fighting breast cancer and research,” she said.

At that moment, Patton said, a light went off in her head.

Patton said it was then she came up with the idea to donate part of the proceeds from each bushel of
Pink Lady apples her Palisade orchard, The PeachFork, sells this year to fighting breast cancer.

“It is (breast cancer) awareness time right now,” she said.

Patton said she hopes to give $1 for every bushel the orchard sells to breast cancer research and raise at least $150.

She said she will welcome donations on top of what someone pays for the apples.

Patton said if anyone is interested in buying some of her orchard’s Pink Lady apples, they can visit its Web site,, or stop by the PeachFork, 281 33 Road.
