Hearing for accused killer rescheduled for May 15
The amount of evidence in the case against a Whitewater woman accused of killing her husband caused prosecution and defense attorneys Thursday to request postponement of her preliminary hearing.
A preliminary hearing for Miriam Helmick, 51, was rescheduled to May 15. A preliminary hearing is held to determine whether probable cause exists for a case to continue to trial.
Helmick is in custody on $2 million bond on charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and 11 counts of forgery in the slaying of her husband, Alan Helmick, 62.
Alan Helmick was found dead June 10 in his Whitewater home at 34999 Siminoe Road. He had a gunshot wound to the head.
