Fire near New Castle contained

Crews have contained a house and garage fire near New Castle that also threatened nearby public lands.

The fire was burning off County Road 245 about 6 miles northwest of New Castle.

The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office said no one was injured in the fire.

Pat Thrasher, spokesman for the Upper Colorado River Interagency Fire Management Unit, said the unit had mobilized two engines and an initial attack squad to prepare for the potential of the fire going onto Bureau of Land Management land.
