House District 54 candidate Scott seeks advisers for issues committee

A Grand Junction Republican running for House District 54 said he will set up a citizens council to advise him on issues before the Legislature.

Ray Scott, a businessman in a two-way race for the GOP nomination for the seat, said in a statement he plans to appoint a council that will review legislation and collect information from residents of the district.

“This will give me a pulse on what the needs and concerns of my constituents will be versus what special interest groups want,” Scott said in the statement. “It’s time to change the old way of thinking.”

Scott and Duncan McArthur, both Republicans, are the announced candidates for the 54th District, which now is represented by Steve King, R-Grand Junction, who is running for the state Senate.

Democrats plan to field a candidate for the district, which includes parts of Mesa and Delta counties, Mesa County Democratic Party Chairwoman Martelle Daniels said.
