I-70 shut at Silverthorne today for rock removal
GEORGETOWN — People traveling across Colorado face long detours.
A 25-mile stretch of Interstate 70 in Colorado’s mountains will be shut down today so that crews can remove some potentially dangerous boulders on the mountainside above the road.
I-70 between Silverthorne and Georgetown will be closed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. If the work isn’t completed, the state transportation department plans to shut the highway again Wednesday morning.
The major detour routes are about four times as long — U.S. 40 at Empire Junction and U.S. 285 to Fairplay.
