Rep. Steve King, R-Grand Junction, and Rep. Laura Bradford, R-Collbran, have filed campaign finance reports for the third quarter this month.

King said he tries to prioritize his expenditures based on what will help him “get the message out” about himself and his new campaign for state senator. He spent $8,216.75 in the third quarter of 2009 for expenses including postage, renting a sound system for a campaign fundraiser, a flag, meals he had with constituents, computer software, renting a town hall meeting place, Internet access, office supplies, refreshments for campaign events, car rental and campaign post cards.

King also bought a Blackberry cell phone and calling plan with campaign dollars because the cell phone he’d used since entering office in 2006 broke.

He said he spends campaign dollars on gasoline when driving to campaign events, and uses state per diem money to fill up his gas tank when heading to the legislative session or heading somewhere for legislative duties.

He also financed a television spot that aired the first full week of October and is airing this week on Fox.

The ad is also shown on his Facebook page. King said he ran the ad because he heard rumblings he may face a primary in August.

Bradford used $1,798.68 to reimburse herself for telephone, travel, advertising and postage expenses and paid $500 for campaign accounting services.

Bradford said she’ll begin spending campaign committee dollars on yard signs and other campaign items after she announces her bid for re-election in about a month.
