Man accused of assaulting girl
A Fruita man has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a child, according to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department.
Nick Wayne Cyr, 30, was booked into the Mesa County Jail on Thursday. His bond was set at $150,000 and he was advised in court on Friday of five possible counts of sex assault on a child as a pattern of abuse and six possible counts of sex assault on a child.
Cyr, who now lives at 2036 J Road, has been accused of sexually assaulting a girl, now 7, when he lived on Grand Valley Canal Road east of Clifton. The girl told investigators Cyr touched her private parts with his hand and exposed himself to her in incidents from January 2007 to December 2009, the arrest affidavit said. The girl said Cyr tied her hands behind her back during one of the incidents.
Cyr denied the allegations when questioned by a Mesa County Sheriff’s investigator. Cyr’s wife said she had no knowledge of assaults and said she did not believe Cyr assaulted the girl because he was rarely around the girl “due to his long work days in the oil field,” the affidavit said. The couple said the girl was not typically dishonest.
The girl described to an investigator seven occasions when she said Cyr touched her private parts or exposed his private parts to her, according to the affidavit. The girl’s mother contacted the Mesa County Department of Human Services in May after the girl talked to her mother about the incidents.
Cyr was still in Mesa County Jail as of Sunday afternoon.
