Merchants hope for big retail weekend
Stores are gearing up for the biggest sales day of the year at Mesa Mall.
The Saturday before Christmas is the biggest revenue-gathering day at the mall, according to spokeswoman Jammie McCloud. The mall hasn’t been as full as usual since Black Friday, McCloud said, and she hopes it’s because people have been waiting until payday or simply running behind this year.
“Everyone’s really optimistic this weekend will be big for them,” McCloud said. “Retailers are definitely hoping for crowds in the mood to buy.”
The mall is so focused on sales that McCloud said there won’t be any special holiday events this Saturday, besides having Santa Claus around, so shoppers won’t be “distracted from their mission.”
However, the first 100 customers this morning will receive $10 gift cards to the mall or a store in the mall.
Mesa Mall hours are 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. today, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday.
