Mesa State one of three RMAC teams to earn berth in Div. II Championships
The Mesa State College women’s golf team received a bid into the NCAA Division II Championships on Monday.
The RMAC regular season champion, led by RMAC player of the year Kristina Casillas, was one of three RMAC teams to be selected to compete in super regionals beginning Sunday. The others were Western New Mexico and Montana State-Billings.
Minnesota State-Mankato received the top seed in the Central Region. Augustana (S.D.) is the second seed and Western New Mexico is the third seed. Mesa State received the fifth seed and Montana State-Billings, which won the RMAC Tournament, is the seventh seed.
The Central Region tournament takes place Sunday through Tuesday, hosted by Mankato at the Jewel Golf Club in Lake City, Minn.
Each super regional consists of nine teams and four individuals from non-qualifying teams at each site. All participants will compete throughout the 54 holes. The top three teams along with the top three individuals not with a team from each super regional qualify for the national championship tournament May 12-15 in Mesa, Ariz.
This is the second consecutive year the Mesa women’s team received a NCAA bid. The Mavericks placed eighth in the Central Region tournament last year.
