Meth trafficking suspected; two jailed

Two men were arrested early Saturday near mile marker 24 on Interstate 70 on suspicion of trying to traffic methamphetamine into Colorado.

Juan Carlos Zepeda, 33, and Timoteo Aguayo-Zepeda, 39, were in possession of 2.6 pounds of suspected methamphetamine when they were arrested, according to a report by the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department.

A deputy pulled the pair over shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday, and Juan Zepeda, who was driving, gave the deputy permission to search the car, according to an arrest affidavit.

The deputy found suspected methamphetamine in the rear quarter panel and inside the rear bumper, the affidavit said.

When asked if he was traveling with illegal drugs in the car, Juan Zepeda told the deputy, “Yes, crystal,” according to the affidavit.

Crystal is a common nickname for methamphetamine.

“Juan told me he and Timoteo were each getting $4,000 for transporting the drugs from California to Colorado,” the sheriff’s deputy wrote.

Juan Zepeda lives in Simi Valley, Calif.

No address was available for Aguayo-Zepeda.
