Montrose Daily Press brings in new publisher

Francis Wick

The Montrose Daily Press hired Francis Wick to become its new publisher.

Wick, son of Wick Communications co-owner Robert Wick, will become publisher July 1. Wick Communications has owned the Daily Press since 1997.

Former Daily Press Publisher Stephen Woody, 58, is resigning to become publisher of The Sheridan Press in Sheridan, Wyo. The publisher there is retiring. Woody’s last day at the Daily Press is April 28, and he will begin his new job in June.

After 14 years in charge of the Daily Press, Woody said he looks forward to moving back to his wife’s hometown. He also worked as a publisher in Wheatland, Wyo., for five years.

“It’s a good opportunity for Francis to get involved in his family’s business, and it’s a good opportunity for me to go back to where I started my career in newspapers,” Woody said. “It’s almost a karmic transition.”

Wick, 30, will graduate in May with a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Arizona. He previously worked at newspapers in Frisco, Colo., and New Iberia, La.
