RSSMount Garfield survey begins
Mesa County officials are considering how best to protect the view of Mount Garfield, named for the nation’s 20th president, who was assassinated in 1881, just as the Grand Valley was opened for settlement.
The bluff overlooking the east end of the valley is considered one of its most notable landmarks and the Mesa County Master Plan identified is as “the most significant gateway to our community.”
Land around the base of Mount Garfield should be protected from development that would mar the majesty of the entry experience, the master plan says.
How to accomplish that is the goal of a survey being conducted by the county. A nine-question survey is available online at http://www.mesacounty.us/planning or more directly at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/mtgarfield.
The results of the survey, which closes Sept. 1, will be presented at an open house Sept. 8 in the Clifton Christian Church fellowship hall, 615 I-70 Business Loop.
