New website made easier for voter registration

The Colorado Secretary of State’s Office has made some changes to its website to make it easier for people to register to vote or make changes to their registrations.

The website, http://www.govotecolorado.com, also includes voter information on what is on this year’s ballot and how overseas voters can cast their ballots before the Nov. 1 general election.

The changes were made to make it easier for people to register to vote before the Oct. 3 registration deadline.

“We’ve expanded the site from simply an online voter registration tool to an informative voter guide,” Secretary of State Scott Gessler said in a statement. “For those voters who moved or have questions about the upcoming election, govotecolorado.com serves as a one-stop shop for voting in Colorado. My aim is to reduce election complexity and increase participation.”

Voters can use the site to register, change their address, request a mail ballot or find their polling place. The site also connects voters with ballot measures, campaign finance statistics and overseas voter information.

Since the site was first launched in April 2010, nearly 123,000 Coloradans have used it to register.

The site was first launched in April 2010 when Grand Junction resident Bernie Buescher was secretary of state. Since then, nearly 123,000 Coloradans have used it to register.
