OA: Samantha Stiles Column September 12, 2008

Sometimes, e-mails can be entertaining

I’m not a Gemini, but I think in different directions. Which is why some weeks it’s necessary to write completely random columns.

First off, let me say, some e-mail is better than no e-mail.

I tell myself that quite often whenever I get creepy, nasty, annoying, sad or junk e-mails.

This week I got two real winners for e-mails and they are loosely related to entertainment.

I like the first one because not only is it clever, but the jokes keep rolling in.

The Snowmass Balloon Festival started Thursday, Sept. 11, and lasts until the 14th. One balloon that should not be missed is The Energizer Bunny Hot Hare Balloon.

“Hot hare,” I laugh every time I see that. I hope the person that thought of that one got a raise.

The e-mail continues: “Campaign 2008 brings with it plenty of hot air ... To be sure, the presidential candidates have demonstrated uncommon persistence, but no one has kept on going for 14 years with the national balloon tour like the Energizer Bunny.”

Mixing politics and batteries isn’t all that toxic after all.

“And it would take about a dozen George Bushes to fill (the bunny’s) size 98 EEEEE sandals.”

Two seconds after receiving the first e-mail, my inbox was graced with an e-mail about a porn star’s new dance single.

But, not only does Vivid Girl Savanna Samson dance, act and sing, she’s an advice columnist and a wine entrepreneur.

Which leads me to the next item.

I don’t mind shamelessly pimping errr ... promoting The Daily Sentinel/GJSentinel.com. Besides the big layout and design changes we rolled out this week, there are some things online I think people should check out ...

•  Such as the renovated Pets blog.
I love pets and your mom loves pets, which is why you should look at and submit photos to the Pets blog on GJSentinel.com.

Looking at Web sites such as Cuteoverload.com just makes me feel better some days. All those cute cuddly animals in one place is like a magical, far away land I’d like to visit.

Looking at The Daily Sentinel’s Pets blog is like escaping into a wonderful pet-filled world where the animals actually live near you.

Curious about what your neighbors are up to? They could be closet dog lovers who dress their mutts in a pretty little sundresses with matching bows in the evenings and photograph them. And you can see the pictures on the Pets blog.

You can e-mail your pet photos to me at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

•  We’ve been doing this about a month on GJSentinel.com, but I think it’s sorely under appreciated. It’s the 60-Second Update video.

Ever wondered what all of us reporters look like in the morning or what we’re working on for the next day’s paper?

Watching the 60-second, or less, video is like peeping at your Christmas presents before Christmas. A guilty pleasure.

The good thing is, we do the video every day (except on the weekends). It’s on the homepage, you can’t miss it.

Sometimes I’ll even tell you in advance what you can read in Out & About the next day.

On a side note, I’d like to give a shout out to Terry (sorry, I don’t know how you spell your name) from Blockbuster the other night. You recognized me and I was awkward and weird about it. I apologize.

I’m usually much less frantic and more ... friendly. If you ever see me again, let’s shake hands or do a high five or something. Thanks for reading my articles.
