Part of canyon bike path reopened
The Colorado Department of Transportation has reopened the popular Glenwood Canyon bike path as far east as the Grizzly Creek Rest Area at Exit 121 of Interstate 70, the agency says.
While the segment between the path’s west end at Glenwood Springs and Grizzly Creek is now open, the path further east remains closed due to high water and major damage resulting from Colorado River flooding. Segments of the concrete trail have been washed away.
The river is continuing to run at 13,200 cubic feet per second at Dotsero, just east of the canyon, and CDOT officials are waiting for the water to recede so they can fully assess the damage and plan repairs.
Even west of Grizzly Creek, the river continues to run close to the bike path, and maintenance crews have placed cones where the path embankment has been eroded. The embankment will be stabilized once conditions allow.
