Physician seeks canes, crutches, other aids for Haitians

Haitians who suffered grievous wounds from the 7.0 magnitude earthquake there need crutches, canes, walkers, wheelchairs, pediatric walkers, leg braces and other aids.

Dr. Creigh MacArthur of Provo, Utah, issued the call for help to friends and family, including Duncan McArthur of Grand Junction.

Physicians laboring to aid the wounded and injured in Haiti are working incredible hours, McArthur said.

“In one day, my cousin reported that he set 25 fractures and treated 72 wounds. That is an incredible workload,” McArthur said

The predominant building material in Haiti is cinder blocks. Falling cinder blocks have caused numerous bone fractures and gaping wounds, McArthur said.

Volunteers in Utah have coordinated with an organization, Healing Hands for Haiti, that has a container ready to ship.

McArthur said he will gather items collected from the Grand Valley to Provo, Utah, from where they will be sent to Haiti.

Anyone with the needed orthopedic aids can call Mc- Arthur at 245-7003.
