Police: Body of missing BYU hiker found

PROVO, Utah — Authorities say the body of a missing 22-year-old Brigham Young University student has been found during a massive search.

Provo police say searchers found the body of Tyler Mayle, of Windsor, Colo., about 8:40 p.m. Wednesday at the bottom of a 65-foot cliff.

He had been missing since Saturday when he went hiking in the hills east of campus near the “Y’’ Mountain trail.

Lt. Matt Siufanua tells the Salt Lake Tribune that it appears he fell, and investigators are trying to determine the circumstances of the fall.

His father Gary Mayle — who was on the scene with his wife — says his son had extensive backwoods experience.

More than 50 searchers looked Wednesday for the BYU junior who was studying communications and political science.
