Police ID suspect in Grand Junction stabbing, but give no name

The Grand Junction Police Department said Thursday a suspect in the stabbing of a man at a North Avenue hotel has been identified, but it didn’t disclose the individual’s name.

The injuries to the victim, a man in his 20s, were not life-threatening, according to Police Department spokeswoman Kate Porras. Police were called at 9:21 p.m. Wednesday on a report of a man stabbed once in a room at Monument Inn, 1600 North Ave., Porras said.

Nancy Teehee, an employee at Monument Inn who said she worked the front desk Wednesday night, said the man who was stabbed had checked in on Tuesday, paying cash for himself and another man to stay one night.

He returned again Wednesday, paying for another night, Teehee said.

Teehee said she went to check on the man’s room around 6:30 p.m. or 7 p.m. Wednesday, after occupants of a nearby room complained about a loud argument. Teehee said she found two men in the room, and neither was the stabbing victim. The victim, she said, turned up about an hour later and asked her to let him in his room, explaining he’d been locked out. The man didn’t want to knock on the door, she said.

“He said the person in his room was a light sleeper,” Teehee said.
