Pot vote in Palisade?

When it comes to medical marijuana dispensaries, Mesa County won’t be mistaken for Denver, where there are reportedly more dispensaries than Starbucks coffee shops.

Mesa County has a total of one dispensary now, operating in the town of Palisade. But the future of Colorado Alternative Health Care is uncertain because the Palisade town clerk has said proponents of a measure to ban dispensaries in Palisade submitted enough signatures to get the measure on the November ballot. It cannot be certified until a protest period ends later this month.

The couple who run the Palisade dispensary have made it a point to operate a safe, professional business, avoiding the stoner chic that seems to define many dispensaries. They also have been involved community citizens.

Palisade residents will have to weigh those factors, and the fact their town has the only dispensary in the county, against the negatives of medical marijuana dispensaries, if the proposed ban makes it to the ballot.
