Public to discuss transportation at a trio of open house forums

Everyone relies on some sort of transportation to get around the area.

Why not put in your two cents about local transportation decisions?

Open houses will be available in your community today through Wednesday for residents to weigh in on transportation matters.

The events offer residents a chance to complete a transportation survey, voice opinions about road projects and gather information about funding challenges for transportation.

The input will go toward the 2035 Regional Transportation Plan.

About 200 Mesa County residents have already completed the survey.

Of those results, three out of four people think traffic congestion will be a major problem in the future, and more than half of the respondents think transportation spending should be increased.

Eighty-five percent of those participants think traffic safety is average to excellent, and 30 percent think air quality is a major problem.

In addition, residents chose Patterson Road and North Avenue as the top roads needing improvement.

Take the survey at Mesa County’s Regional Transportation Plan Web site, at http://www.2035RTP.com.

Open houses will be:

Monday at Fruita Civic Center, 325 East Aspen.

Tuesday at the old county courthouse in the multipurpose room, 544 Rood Ave.

Wednesday at Palisade Civic Center, 120 West Eighth St.

All open houses are scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m.
