Reception to honor Cold War-era nuclear workers

A reception honoring people who worked in the nuclear industry during the Cold War will take place from 11 a.m.  to 1 p.m. today at the offices of Professional Case Management, 1910 N. 12th St.

The Day of Remembrance was declared by Congress in honor of Cold War veterans, including uranium millers, miners, truckers and other workers, as well as employees of nuclear weapons facilities such as Rocky Flats on the Front Range.

Many of the people who produced, milled and refined nuclear materials have died or suffer from radiation-related diseases that are compensable under the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act and Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Act.

People who worked in the industry and their relatives are welcome to attend the open-house reception at the office, Professional Case Management said.
