Rifle Gap State Park reopens to boaters

Rifle Gap State Park has joined Rifle Falls State Park and the Rifle Falls Fish Hatchery in reopening to the public following the Ward Gulch Fire, Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials announce this morning.

Rifle Gap is open to boaters, although park officials say the swim beach located at the west end of the park remains closed to the public due to ongoing firefighting efforts. The park had been closed to boating as helicopters fighting the fire had been dipping in the reservoir.

The fire has burned 485 acres and is 85 percent contained.

Anyone heading to Rifle Falls State Park and Rifle Falls Fish Hatchery are urged to exercise caution and should expect to see firefighting crews along Colorado Highway 325 for the foreseeable future, according to CPW
