Roadwork to delay monument motorists

Road maintenance work will continue this week in Colorado National Monument, and motorists should expect 10- to 15-minute delays.

Workers on Tuesday will begin resurfacing the entire 26-mile stretch of Rim Rock Drive. The project will start at the east entrance and move to the west entrance.

The schedule of work is as follows:

Tuesday: east entrance to DS Road

Wednesday: DS Road to Fallen Rock Overlook

Thursday: Fallen Rock Overlook to Upper Monument Canyon Trailhead

Friday: Upper Monument Canyon Trailhead to the Visitor’s Center

Glade Park residents are advised to use Little Park Road to avoid delays.

There may be multiple areas of work occurring at the same time, so the combined delay time could be bumped up to 30 minutes.

Monument officials say motorcyclists and bicyclists should expect rough, occasionally slick road surfaces.

The project should be completed by mid-October.

The public can stay up to date on the work by calling the Monument’s offices at 970-858-3617, ext. 300 or logging onto http://www.nps.gov/colm.
