Salazar opponent favors gas tax hike

Republican congressional candidate and Delta County Commissioner Wayne Wolf told a nonpartisan voter-information Web site that he favors a gas tax increase.

In the questionnaire response, published on http://www.votesmart.org this week, Wolf said he would favor raising the gasoline tax to better fund highway construction and repair.

“I will pursue an energy policy that will greatly reduce gasoline prices and when that happens I would accept a small increase in the (taxes that fund the) Highway Users Trust Fund that would strictly go toward highway improvements,” Wolf wrote in the questionnaire.

Wolf could not be reached for comment Thursday.

The Delta County official’s opponent, two-term Congressman John Salazar, D-Colo., declined to comment Thursday on Wolf’s questionnaire response.
