Semi rollover partially closes I-70 in De Beque canyon

A semi tractor-trailer that rolled over while carrying a load of glass has caused the temporary closure of Interstate 70 eastbound through De Beque Canyon.

The Colorado Department of Transportation says the eastbound lanes of traffic are closed between mile markers 55 and 57. One westbound lane of I-70 also is closed. Eastbound traffic is being rerouted at Exit 49, up Colorado Highway 65 and through the De Beque cutoff back to I-70.

CDOT officials say it make take until 8 p.m. today to clean up the wreck. The accident happened just after 2 p.m.

UPDATE: By 4:30 p.m., state troopers were allowing through about 10 miles worth of eastbound traffic that had backed up before they started diverting traffic at Exit 49, but driving on the shoulder and very slowly.
