Seven people show interest for Grand Junction City Council vacancy

Seven candidates have thrown their hat into the ring to be considered for an appointment to the Grand Junction City Council.

They are: Riecke Claussen, Tom Kenyon, Reginald Wall, Michael Coltharp, Barbara Traylor Smith, Teresa Black and Charles Michael Elliott.

The at-large position was vacated by former Councilor Rick Brainard, who resigned July 19. The term is up April 2015, at which time the seat will be filled by an election. Current councilors will appoint the new member.

Councilors expect to choose a candidate during a 6 p.m. Sept. 5 meeting in the auditorium of Grand Junction City Hall, 250 N. Fifth St.
