Mesa’s Retana-Quinones selected RMAC wrestler of the week

Colorado Mesa heavyweight wrestler Paco Retana-Quinones is the RMAC wrestler of the week.

The redshirt freshman from Longmont went 2-0 last week with one pin. He pinned CSU-Pueblo’s Bill Gray in 1 minute, 23 second on Thursday night, then defeated Adams State’s Taylor Stam 12-4 to seal the Mavericks’ victory over No. 9 Adams State on Friday. Retana-Quinones (12-19) has four pins this season.

Mesa wrestles at 7 p.m. on Thursday at No. 15 Fort Hays State (Kan.) University and at 7 p.m. on Friday at No. 5 Nebraska-Kearney.



Powderhorn’s Morris 2nd in slalom


Brigit Morris of the Powderhorn Racing Club finished second in the slalom last week at Winter Park.

Morris, racing in the J4 division, finished in 32.66 seconds, just behind Nellie Rose Talbot of Vail, who finished in 32.06 seconds. Morris also placed sixth in a run last Saturday and will be among seven racers from Powderhorn entered in the Junior Olympic J4 qualifier later this month at Crested Butte.
