GJ wins season-opening match

In preparation for the Western Slope Invitational, the Grand Junction High School tennis team defeated Dakota Ridge 6-1 on Thursday in the Tigers’ season opener at Grand Junction High School.

The Tigers’ No. 2 singles Alex Proietti defeated Rebecca Meyer 6-4, 6-3. Anna McGinnis won her first match at No. 3 singles, defeating Katie Johnson 6-1, 6-1.

The Tigers’ lone loss in the singles came at No. 1 singles where Dakota Ridge’s Elise Eppard defeated Maddie Hayduk 4-6, 7-6, 10-5.

In doubles, the Tigers’ No. 1 doubles team of Madison Gurley and Kylie Pond won 6-0, 6-4 and Grand Junction’s No. 4 doubles team of Anna Hughes and Stephanie Whalers won 6-0, 6-0.

SOCCER

Basalt 9, Grand Valley 0: The Longhorns’ Ginevra Moore had two goals and three assists Basalt’s lopsided win. Julia Kuputska scored two goals in the first half to help give the Longhorns a 3-0 halftime lead.
