‘Stories from the Land’ film to be shown at Avalon

If you can’t be on McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area’s 123,430 acres — the work week got in the way, perhaps — then at least join in the 10th anniversary Celebration in Art and Film.

With the premiere of “Stories from the Land: McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area” and the announcement of the winners of an art contest, this is the initial McInnis Canyons’ Season of Celebration event.

The event is from 6:30–9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, at Avalon Theatre, 645 Main St. Tickets are $5 and will be available at the door.

“Stories from the Land” is a documentary highlighting everything from the history and to the current recreational uses of the McInnis Canyons area. It was produced by local videographer Mara Ferris.

The winning artwork from the contest will be displayed at the Avalon, along with pieces created by middle school students in The Western Colorado Conservation Corps’ Learn and Serve Program.

Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Friends of McInnis Canyons and the Western Colorado Conservation Corps.
