Synthetic marijuana ban faces first test in Colo.
DENVER — A permanent ban on synthetic marijuana known as “spice” faces its first test in the Colorado Legislature.
The Senate Judiciary Committee is taking up a measure to outlaw synthetic cannabinoids such as the “spice” drug that recently got five Air Force Academy cadets expelled. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration banned “spice” on March 1, but the federal ban is a temporary one.
Colorado’s would make synthetic marijuana a Schedule I drug permanently. The bill would also cover faux bath salts that are synthetic hallucinogens.
The Senate Judiciary Committee starts work on the “spice” ban this afternoon.
