This Week in the Legislature, April 16, 2012

Lawmakers in the Colorado House completed debate on the budget last week. Now it’s the Senate’s turn.

■ Today: The House Education Committee will hear a bill for changing the name of Western State College in Gunnison to Western State Colorado University.

■ Tuesday: The House Health & Environment Committee will hear a bill that would expand the state’s law that allows health care facilities to prescribe unused medications to include health clinics in the state’s prisons.

■ Wednesday: The House Finance Committee will hear a bill that would allow two video lottery terminal casinos to open in the state, including one on the Western Slope.

■ Thursday: The Senate will cast its final vote on the 2012–13 budget.

■ Next week: Assuming the Senate does finish with the budget, the Joint Budget Committee will take the measure and iron out any differences between the House and Senate versions of the bill.

Scheduled committee hearings are subject to change. All floor action and committees can be watched or heard on the Legislature’s website, http://www.leg.state.co.us.
