Three GJPD officers investigated in homeless camp incident
Three Grand Junction Police Department officers have been placed on paid leave following allegations they damaged property at a transient camp near the Colorado River.
A complaint involving the officers, who have not been identified, was made this past week, according to a Grand Junction police news release. The case has been forwarded to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department for investigation, while Grand Junction police have opened their own internal investigation.
“Police Chief John Camper has made his standards clear to all department employees; all citizens, irrespective of race, creed, gender, sexual orientation, or socio-economic status, will be treated with courtesy and respect,” reads the release.
“Conduct that does not meet that standard, or the failure to report conduct that does not meet that standard, will be fully investigated and addressed as a disciplinary matter.”
