VA medical facilities to stay open even if gov’t shuts down

If the federal government shuts down at midnight, medical facilities operated by the Department of Veterans Affairs will continue to operate, though, the department said.

Claims processing will continue, but likely will be delayed and burials in national cemeteries will continue, but probably on a reduced schedule.

VA call centers and hotlines,, however, will cease in the event of a shutdown, meaning that billing issues, consumer affairs questions, general information about health care benefits and communications with the inspector general’s office all will be postponed until the shutdown is over.
