Valley teen marching in Macy’s parade
Chris Hoback will be the lone representative of Colorado in the Great American Marching Band on Nov. 26 when he marches in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Hoback, a 16-year-old junior at Palisade High School, applied last school year to play the tenor saxophone in this year’s parade. He was invited to apply after making the all-state band. He learned he had been accepted to march in the parade in March.
Hoback said he’s excited about the opportunity and his first trip to New York.
“I get to play with a different group, I get to see New York. It’s the experience of a lifetime,” he said.
Hoback leaves for New York on Nov. 21. He’ll get fitted for his band uniform that night and practice with the 185-member marching band the following Sunday through Wednesday. He’ll return to his East Orchard Mesa home Nov. 27.
The cost of the trip is around $2,500. Hoback has conducted two fundraisers and has a benefit fund set up at American National Bank. To donate to the fund, ask a teller to apply money to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade fund at the bank.
