Western Slope clinics to receive funds for uninsured patients

Several Western Slope health clinics are among 17 in Colorado that will receive a total of $3 million in federal money to help uninsured patients enroll in affordable health insurance coverage.

The funds are allocated in conjunction with the Affordable Care Act.

Among the recipients are the Olathe Community Clinic, which will receive more than $66,000, and Mountain Family Health Center in Glenwood Springs, set to receive nearly $128,500.

Clinics in Steamboat Springs and Norwood also were listed as award recipients in an announcement made last week by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

“Community health centers provide a critical avenue for Colorado families to secure the health services they need to stay healthy and productive,” U.S. Sen. Mark Udall said in a news release.

U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet said in a news release that the awards will help families determine eligibility and enroll in the right plan for them.

The centers are expected to use the federal funding to hire staff, train existing staff and conduct community outreach and educational activities, according to a joint statement by the senators.
