Williams cleared in spring contamination
The state cleared Williams Production RMT in an investigation into contamination of a spring northwest of Parachute.
The Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission determined that Williams doesn’t appear to be responsible for cancer-causing benzene found in Rock Spring.
The agency still is investigating whether the operations of Oxy USA WTP LP caused the contamination.
The state issued Williams and Oxy notices of alleged violation based on the proximity of their drilling operations to Rock Spring.
Williams spokeswoman Susan Alvillar said she is pleased about the investigation’s outcome.
“Our good name is worth a lot,” she said.
“We’re real proud of the way we operate, but it is a difficult position to be guilty until proven innocent,” she said.
