Wine Country Inn makes top 100 hotels list

The Wine Country Inn is the 78th best hotel in the world, according to’s annual ranking of the top 100 hotels.

The online travel service picked the Palisade hotel as a 2011 Expedia Insider Select hotel based on Expedia guest reviews of the hotel in 2010, local expertise of hotel staff and the quality of experience that guests get for their money. Expedia guest reviews are limited to Expedia clients who have stayed at the reviewed hotel within the last six months.

The inn’s general manager, Jerome Strack, said he learned the hotel made the list Thursday morning.

“It’s a pretty amazing feat,” he said.

Strack said he owes the accomplish to his great staff and scenic location, which have helped generate dozens of pleasant Expedia reviews and an average rating on the site of 4.9 out of 5 stars.

All of the 75 reviews posted on Expedia about the Wine Country Inn recommend prospective guests check out the hotel. A reviewer from Washington state said in an April 7 post that the inn “was a beautiful little surprise in a tiny town.” A March 27 post from a Utah resident said, “The staff is attentive and friendly, the rooms clean, and the breakfast is outstanding.”

The top 100 list includes hotels from 29 countries and six continents. The Wine Country Inn placed 28th among the 37 U.S. hotels to make the list.

Expedia includes 500 hotels each year in its list of Insider Select winners’ circle, but only the first 100 are ranked. Seattle’s Cedarbrook Lodge topped this year’s list.
