You Said It Column January 03, 2009

• To the person who doesn’t want a new City Market: Look at it this way. The elders won’t have to drive so far, so they won’t be cloging up all the streets. We won’t have to put up with their entitlement as much. The intersection at Patterson Road and 12th Street is already congested, so we won’t notice much difference.

• When did it become socially acceptable to condone and virtually support out-of-wedlock childbearing? I was raised that you only procreated under the covenant of marriage. I think this says something about the degradation of our social fabric.

• First Victoria’s Secret, second the gentleman’s club, now Hooters. Our city is declining rapidly. Why isn’t anyone trying to stop this degradation of women? Maybe someone will do something when their teenage daughter is raped.

• City Council, why did you pass off the decision of the gentlemen’s club again to the planning commission? They said no twice now. Please finish this thing. No one wants it here.

• It’s interesting to watch George Bush’s last four friends in Washington trying to rewrite history for his legacy. They’re just wasting their time, though, because we already know the truth.

• To the person complaining about senior citizens: I hope you go out and slip on the ice and break your leg. Then maybe you will understand how it feels to be a senior citizen. Call Safeway and Albertsons, and maybe they will deliver for you.

• For what it’s worth: Do we really think a strip club will be beneficial to Grand Junction? Sure it will bring profit and money to the owner, but at what cost to us? What about the lives it will ruin by those who are decieved there? What about their families? No, the strip club is a bad idea. Vote it down.

• Thank goodness. it’s winter. We get a three-month relief from the Harley-Davidsons and their airhead riders.

• Sometimes a loss is the best blessing. Better to be humilliated before getting into the playoffs. Now the Broncos can focus on finding players tough enough to handle the job and who aren’t felons. My old coach always said, “conditioning is champion” and it keeps you whole.

• Do the people who live on corner lots in downtown not realize that they have an obligation to clear the snow on both the front and the side walkways? These are public walkways and need to be maintained. Code enforcement will be calling on you.

• What a shame that it takes someone getting shot for being noisy in the theater. Why is it that people need to be texting and talking in the theater when you are there to “watch” the movie. The shooter made a wrong decision, but it brings to light the ever-growing problem of people disrespecting the movie experience. I do not go to the movies any more because of this problem. Why would you pay for a movie just to socialize? You can do this in a bar and be as noisy as you want. So please, get in, sit down and shut up.

• To the impatient soul who wrote in You Said It that Obama’s was a do-nothing administration: The least you could do is wait until they’re actually in office and at work before complaining about them. Jeez Louise.

• Since Obama has not yet begun to lead this country and can do nothing until he is actually sworn in, you don’t know if it’ll be a do-nothing administration. Why don’t you give them all a chance? I would rather have a president who does nothing, over one who does damage. Things can only get better over the next four years.

• Quite interesting that a big religious majority feels righteous over a small minority regarding Christian prayers in governmental meetings while a small minority of pro-business officials feels righteous over a big majority regarding community zoning changes.

• Why did the city put in turn lanes for eastbound Patterson Road at Seventh and 12th streets and take out the existing turn lane at 28 1/4 Road? I’ve got a bunch of old shoes. When is the next meeting?
