You Said It Column November 03, 2008

•  To the person who cannot afford to have a fireplace built — you don’t have to. In the Sentinel Sunday Parade magazine, there is a two-page ad for an electric fireplace. It is a very nice-looking fireplace. You can roll it to wherever you want the heat as long as there is a plug-in close by. The ad claims that it uses no more electricity than a coffeepot (or 8 cents a day). The cost is $298 for the furnace, $49 shipping. Three-year warranty for $28 and $9.99 for the remote control for a total of $385. I got one last spring, and it really does the job.

• To the person concerned about covered parking for fire and police: In the years I have worked for the city, one employee’s vehicle was destroyed by a bomb and one patrol vehicle was severely damaged. Other vehicles have been tampered with. Thus far no one has been hurt. It would be nice to know I was safe getting into my vehicle late at night at the end of the shift while others are already sleeping quietly in their beds.
