You Said It Column November 24, 2008

• Now that the Avalon went out of business because of the lack of support from the “art” crowd, it’s time for the city to sell the property. Government has no business owning commercial buildings and financially supporting organizations competing directly against the private sector. Sell the building and use the money for fire/police service buildings you’ve been whining about. While you’re at it, sell Community Hospital and let it be run by a commercial or nonprofit corporation.

• St. Mary’s built a beautiful free parking lot for its employees, so why do some of its employees insist on parking on Mira Vista and Belaire Street, causing congestion and traffic hazards?

• The stock market looks ahead six to eight months. So what you have seen in the market and the economy is the change we voted for.
