You Said It Column September 21, 2008

• I would like to thank the young man who found my purse a couple months ago and turned it in immediately. I was thrilled to get it back intact and I would like to tell everyone there are wonderful young people who live here in our valley. We are so blessed.

• I don’t know about anyone else, but I am really sick and tired of footing the bill for this collapsing economy while the CEOs walk off with millions of dollars and leave stockholders empty-handed. These are the same people spreading lies about Obama’s tax plan because they do not want to be made to pay their fair share. They just figure the plebes will clean up their mess and like it. Deregulation really worked out well. Thanks a bunch.

• I would like to make this very clear for those who may be confused: No one who makes less than $250,000 per year will see their taxes raised under an Obama administration. You will still have a capital gains exemption for the first $500,0000 per household of profit from the sale of your primary residence. I really wish people would wise up and realize that you are being lied to.

• To the person who keenly noticed that “while female, Sarah Palin is no Hillary Clinton,” you stopped too soon by not including the rest of the story which is “and for that we all can be eternally grateful.”

• To all those people bashing Sarah Palin’s experience: Look at the record. She has more experience than Obama. And she is only running for vice president.

• It would be nice if past performers at the Cabaret dinner theater would organize a benefit performance of comedy scenes and songs, with the proceeds to help retire the debt of the Cabaret. This was a very special business in Grand Junction, and many of us would welcome a chance to see our favorite performers again and donate to the cause of easing this debt.

• The statement implying that as a senator, Obama has made it farther than Bush as a Texas governor is a prime example of how our education system is failing.

• The new roundabouts in Fruita are much easier to figure out than those at 24 Road. The large overhead signs are well seen with great directions. Left-lane vs. right-lane options. Do away with the small signs and go big. This will help confused people that come in from out of town and some of us locals, too.

• Dear Jesus, Mohammed, Budda, Mother Nature, The Great Spirit of the North, or anyone else who might be out there hearing this prayer: Please send us a leader that will guide us away from the constant, ridiculous, destructive bickering between the tree-hugging lefties and the righteous righties.

• Xcel Energy continues to play the yo-yo game with our energy bills. They go way up for a while and then they drop ever so slightly, and then way up they go again. It’s kind of like bait and switch. A small drop just occurred but just wait for the increase.

• Many thanks to the Sentinel for publishing the rules of the roundabouts. I have been saying for months that it would be a great thing to see in the paper. You read my mind. Of course, not everyone got the message, but kudos for the effort. Perhaps a countywide mailing with the info will be next.

• A huge thank you to Dr. David Robbins, his assistant, Carrie, and the nurses at St. Mary’s for bringing our baby daughter Zoe into the world (at 4 in the morning, too). Dr. Robbins is professional, funny, caring and just generally awesome in every way.

• There’s only one wild-eyed radical running in the upcoming presidential election and her name is Sarah Palin.

• It amazes me when I hear people say that Obama does not talk like a president. Are we so used to our president lying that we want to elect another one that has already lied 18 times and continues to spew the same lies over and over again with delight and a condescending tone. Shame on us.

• As a safety precaution for the protection of all our tenants, we do not rent to anyone with a pit bull, even if it wears lipstick.

• To quote John McCain in 2007 regarding Hillary’s health care plan: “They put some lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig.” Why is it such a big deal when Obama says the same thing about McCain’s economic plan? As much coverage as Obama’s statement has received, one has to wonder where the so-called liberal controlled media is.

• To the party in the red sports car who passed us on the right up on Interstate 70 (we were in the right lane): You are going to get someone hurt or killed. Slow down and follow the rules of the road.

• If you are traveling south on 24 Road and approach the double-roundabout over Interstate 70, planning to continue travelling south on 24 Road, please stay in your outside lane. Do not cut in front of the vehicle that is exiting Interstate 70 to head south on 24 Road.  Follow the signs.
