• I know facts are never that popular during an election year, but the following are the facts:   The top 5 percent of taxpayers pay 60 percent of the taxes collected, while the bottom 50 percent pay only 3 percent. When politicians speak of “payroll taxes” they are referring to Social Security and Medicare taxes, which both the employer and employee pays. It is difficult to give someone a “tax break” when they are not paying any taxes.

• I can’t believe that there are 6,000 people in this valley that would cheer for a socialist. What are they thinking?
