You Said It, June 3, 2012

Reading the Sierra Club attempts to stop the use of natural gas: Do they really think large solar arrays are compatible with beautiful landscape vistas? Are they aware of the deaths of millions of bats and birds from the wind turbines, not to mention loud noise?

The never drill or mine anywhere, anytime tree huggers should spend their time and money on the bark beetle now that it’s also polluting our air.

A word to the wise if you are a small-pet owner living within a few miles of Scenic Elementary: A family of red-tailed hawks in this area have three hungry young ones. My neighbor had a near-miss with her pup. There have been numerous sightings of the hawks carrying cats to the nest.

A huge thank you to Humphrey RV for their community support with helping with our dog agility show.

I wish to thank the Halliburton crew and the lady in the red pickup when my ATV fell off the trailer on Interstate 70. Your help was greatly appreciated and I know your efforts to slow and divert traffic kept the traveling public out of harm’s way. Thank you for loading the ATV, cleaning up the highway and being concerned.

Thanks to the veteran who assisted my husband during the Memorial Day ceremony at the Veterans Cemetery. He and his wife also put our chairs in our car.

To the person or persons who stole a large flowerpot with purple daisies in full bloom from my husband’s gravesite on Memorial Day: May karma come your way and you pay for what you did.

I’m not sure what wonderful services we get that we’re not paying for in Clifton. We have our own fire department and pay our own trash pickup, water, sewer and electrical; and if our property taxes don’t pay for roads and bridges, etc., then what are they paying for?

Regarding the You Said It comment about not needing to license bicycles because of having paid license fees already on two cars: You are paying licensing fees on each car separately. Using your own logic, you should only be paying fees on one car; the other would be automatically covered.

Thanks to the man who rescued my bike from First Street after it fell from my bike rack onto the road. I appreciate the effort you made to try to locate me by returning it to Brown Cycles. They were helpful in putting our stories together and after some minor repairs, I will be back on the trails this weekend.

Use the old Grand Valley Power building for the homeless? That site was perfect for the Greyhound bus station.

I read with interest the recent article about Garfield County Lou Vallario and his stance on immigration laws and enforcement. Here’s an idea: Why don’t you move to Grand Junction? If you run for sheriff here, I guarantee you will get at least one vote: mine.

Is the planner for G and 24 roads (Canyon View Park) the same one who did the back-in parking spaces downtown? The city has spent tens of thousands of dollars ripping out the current sidewalk installing angle parking that backs into G Road and is now going to redo the irrigation for the grass because of the new sidewalk that has just been installed.

Just so you know, my children will not be attending school on the additional day School District 51 added to the 2012–2013 calendar because it is a federal holiday recognizing and honoring U.S. presidents.

It’s nice to see the Scenic Elementary kids get ice cream. Unfortunately, the other 22,000 students in District 51 are paying for it with increased athletic fees and walking distances because of the school board’s $1.2 million mistake.

It is so tiresome about money for school. Why don’t groups get together and start a school tax on everyone over 18? It could be $100 or more and that would take it off the property owners’ backs.

Redlands Middle did not replace Spanish with history of rock music. Yes, Spanish was dropped. Check your facts.
